Database Administration
Database configuration and maintenance have historically been complex tasks, often requiring expert knowledge of database design and application behavior. In an embedded environment, it is not possible to require such
expertise or to perform ongoing database maintenance. This paper discusses the database administration challenges posed by embedded systems and describes how Sleepycat Software’s Berkeley DB architecture
addresses these challenges. Disclosed is a computing architecture and method for remotely managing key aspects of relational database management systems. The architecture and method make use of internet connectivity, a database of historical performance data, a reporting system and a centralized database operations center. These components, in conjunction with software from BMC Inc., allow for the delivery of integrated database administration activities to remote processing sites from a central location. We do Database Administration consists of everything required to manage a database and make it available as needed.
